NATURALLY, THE UK’S TOUGHEST HALF-MARATHONS

SATURDAY 12TH OCTOBER 2019 – DELAMERE FOREST, CHESHIRE

About the venue

IT’S A HELL OF A HALF MARATHON! This is the UK’s toughest half marathon (north of our southern event of course! You decide which is hardest). Many make the claim of being the toughest. We’ll let your punished sole judge for itself. This event set the bar for off-road running at a new level when it extended its distance from a measly 10 miles in 2014. The terrain at Delamere Forest is unforgiving, peppered with water features and beyond rough underfoot.

Now in its 6th year at Half Marathon distance, witness HellRunner’s signature features including the legendary Bog of Doom, the Devil’s Disco, Hills of Hell, Lucifer’s Lido, Fire Service hose wash, fabulous runner rewards, a cracking event village with brand new bar, more food choices, heated marquee, premium changing option with showers, Rat Race Store, live MC and of course, a Devil on stilts!

As running experiences go, this is both Heaven and Hell. A hellish challenge, but Heavenly support and services on hand.

On-site parking is available at £5 advance and £10 on the day. BUY PARKING HERE

NEW for 2019: we are operating the same great formats at Hell Up North and Hell Down South

HellRunner Half Marathon
Halfway to Hell (short course)
Hell Of A Marathon (2 laps of HellRunner)
Little Devils Kids Run (2k with option to go round twice)

Our full course is a 13 mile route. There are no obstacles, just hellish natural challenges. Bogs, hills, water, mud, mud and more mud. Entry is available for runners with a high pain threshold over the age of 14 years.

Want to just dip your toe into Hell for a gentle look around? Well bad luck. While this is half the distance, it is no walk in the park. At approximately 10km your soul will still need to stand up and be counted. Halfway to HellRunners can enter the later waves with their full HellRunner mates, splitting off at the short cut, hoping to be reunited at the finish.

This upgrade takes you round twice for a marathon of misery. Along with an exclusive early wave for Marathon runners, this upgrade includes a Hell Of A Marathon race tee, extra water station at the start of the second lap, and special golden medal with dedicated ribbon. Marathoners have 8 hours to complete this epic, with the second lap needing to be commenced within 3hrs 45 mins. Places are limited to wave 1.

Not even children are spared at HellRunner. The Little Devils race is for kids up to 13 years of age. We ask that under 7s are accompanied on course by an adult to supervise their progress.

WAVE 1:
Marathon Class. 09:00

Wave 1 is reserved just for our Hell Of A Marathon class. They start 30min before the other HellRunners to get out in front and have time to make the 12noon cut off for lap 2.

WAVE 2:
HellRunner Premium Wave. 09:30

This is our premium wave for the keen beans or those wanting to give themselves maximum time to complete. It is an extra £5 to enter this wave and it suitable for those that want to get the clearest running experience before the Half Way To Hell short cut is opened after 11:15am.

WAVE 3 – 7:
Every 15 minutes from 09:45

HellRunner full course runners only please.

WAVE 8
and 9:

11:00 and 11:15

Mixed waves of HellRunner full course runners and Half Way To Hell runners. Half Way junction opens on course at 11:15am.

Kids
Wave:

13:00

Little Devils Kids Run

Waves will depart every 15 minutes with a maximum of 300 people per wave to ensure a quality on-course experience for all runners.

Halfway to Hell short course runners can start any time from 11:15am onwards. We have scheduled the kids run to give parents the chance in an early wave and get back to run with their kids, if they wish (and if they are quick enough!). Parents can accompany kids around the course at their discretion. Kids will be able to run once or twice around the course, which is approximately 2km

EVENT FACILITIES AT HELL UP NORTH

We recommend that some items that can be quickly pulled on after the run are left in a waterproof bag.

Small basic changing areas will be available for all participants as standard. However, we recommend that all runners arrive at the event already changed and bring additional warm and dry items to put on for your return journey. For those looking for extra facilities we offer a VIP Upgrade which includes a jacket potato (for those post-race hunger pangs), hot showers, a heated changing tent, bag storage for the duration of the event AND dedicated toiletsThis upgrade is available to purchase here.

Before the run we recommend you come hydrated and with your own bottle of water.

Toilets and Handwash

Portable toilets will be available within the event village and close to the start / finish area. It is always a good idea to visit the loo before arriving on site. There will also be a handwash facility at the finish to get your mitts mud-free. (Yes, your hands will get muddy).

All prices include VAT at 20%. An administration fee of 5.99% will be added to all transactions.
– Why have the extra fee rather than just putting up the entry price?

• No-one likes hidden extras. We are upfront about this fee. The fairest way for us to be fully transparent is to separate this cost out and explain it. The Processing Fee has discrete input costs independent of the direct costs that produce the event. We reserve the right to change this fee based on the processing costs at any time.

– Why use the system we use?

• The online payment process is provided by Paypal so it is very secure.

• It offers the opportunity to pay directly from your Paypal account (if you prefer this to paying by credit card or debit card).

• It is the cheapest and best value solution we can find and it is tailored to the events you are entering. We feel it is very competitive in the marketplace, versus the fees charged by other professional event operators.

• It integrates with charity donation web sites so there is a quick and easy way for you to raise money and obtain your fund-raising discount, should you choose.

– This fee covers the costs of operating the following:

• The credit card and Paypal processing fees

• The IT development in building, hosting and maintaining the online entry system.

• The associated bank fees and insurances required to process the event registration fees

• The administration personnel costs of running the registration database

• VAT at 20%

– Why add on a percentage rather than a set fee?

• Rat Race offer such a range of challenges that our price points vary massively. Therefore it is considered the fairest option that all customers are charged the same %age pro rata.

– How can I save money?

• The processing fee will be less the earlier you enter (as it is calculated as a %age) so take advantage of the Early Bird offers to get the best prices across the board.

• Buy a Rat Race Season Ticket

NOTE: there is a £5 premium to run in the first HellRunner Half Marathon wave
